Chokoloskee Tarpon ,Reds, and Snook Bite

Report Date: January 1, 2008

Well what can you say but WIND!
When we have calm weather all three species can be caught.
You really have to know the backcountry, and what sides of the shores will produce in the up and coming months.
When this happens and just keep searching and don't give up.
1 week all is well, then the fronts move down and all goes to the dogs.
You have to re-group when this happens and again: KEEP SEARCHING!
It's a must to have your artificials in the water at all times and cover ground.
The tarpon are pretty thick right now but the wind keeps them on the mud or sand bottoms.
If you start to blow them out,get out of the area right then and return when the conditions are better.Pole out,or if you use a troling motor go out super quiet or they will be gone when you try again.
Nothings better the to go back on a nice windless day, suns up high, and start jumping those tarpon you have found.Hopefully no one has run threw them not knowing while you've been snook fishing out back for a few days.
The snook are basically off the shorelines between the boat and the shore.Work that top water all the way back to the boat,DON"T give up,keep that plug in,and just keep covering areas out back.
On the gulf side the same almost applies, although with the reds, just drop the 1/8 oz jig about 3-4 feet in front, and work it just slowly until the red sees it and HOLD ON!
Loads of mackeral, jacks ladyfish, small blues,a few cobia's and a few Trout on the Gulf Side.

Baby Flamingo
