Brown Water Round Up!

Report Date: August 11, 2009

Well the gators have now made it to the outside rivers as well as around the bites on the gulfside.Actually, yesterday my wife Susan and I were lucky enough to have a salt croc.right behind our house, which is something I never,in a million years, would have expected.
In the almost 30 years of fishing the Chokoloskee area, I've only seen a few of these great Crocks.
I fished Gil Drake this week and it was a success.
We were in the backcountry and found the small tarpon in the 20 to 30 pound range, and having 1 jumping into the boat.
Also,we he brought to the boat 3 snook with in the slot,as well as probably 15 snook in the 18 to 20 inch range.
It was so hot, and the humidity so high, it probably had an air temp. of 100 plus.
At about 2 in the afternoon we called it a day.
We almost got back to the house, but then we were slammed by a thunderstorm.
Word of Caution,Always pay attention to the weather this time of year,it can be serious, and very dangerous if not prepaired.
All fish were released unharmed and it was another sucessful backcountry experiance.
Tight lines,
Capt. Bert Barkus
