Everglades National Park (Chokoloskee Fl.)

Report Date: April 2, 2008

March has come and gone with the wind.
We were having great days fishing the backcountry of chokoloskee.
Threw the month, my anglers caught and released probably more double digit snook then we have in many years, not counting the ones we lost at boat side, or cut off in the mangroves, were probably talking 15 to 20 plus fish.
Normally, the backcountry of chokoloskee holds loads of the 1-4 pounders, and it's not uncommom the have a 30 plus fish day if you do the work and keep pounding the shore line of the mangroves.
The largest snook this month was a 44" 30 pounder caught and released.
The photo is of Nelson, keeping in mind, the man is probably 6'4"and that gives you the size of this Snook.
Reds are also out back in more numbers then I've seen in years.
Now, with April here, the rains are already started, but I personally like it not so hot wile poling the Backcounty.
Out front on the gulf side,if you catch the tides right, you won't have a problem catching all three Of the Everglades slam:Tarpon,Snook, and Redfish.Everything has to be just right to make this happen, but It can if you know the area well enough.
Tight Lines,

Nelson Sucarichi 30# 44" Backcountry Snook

Capt. Bert Barkus
