Snook-Laid up Tarpon & Redr

Report Date: January 16, 2009

Winter months in chokoloskeecan even keep the salty of the salts off the water till it worms up at mid day,
I personally love this time of year and always get out fro the first bite.
The backcountry fishing, can at times,Can be world class as well as on the gulf side.
The water gets so shallow and clear,a shallow draft boat is almost a must to capitalize in the winter months.
I personally site fish most all year(Conditions permitting)thats why I love the winter months when the water is crystal clear.
I also like to new slot, and believe here in chokoloskee most guides would agree. It's pretty hard to get one in the slot with the new regs.but our catch rate has improves quiet a bit catching many more of those 20"-25"snook on fly when 2 years ago they wew the little dinks(maybe 18").
I'm now seeing those bigger snoon in the backcountry and during the day we have been seeing and casting to as many as 3-4 really nice fish.
The largest snook in 2008 was 47#,and was released back and swam off well.
Thght Lines,
Capt.Bert Barkus
